Proline FC are the champions of the FUFA big league after beating Wakiso Giants FC 1-0 at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo on Saturday.
The two outfits strode out to try and finish a job that has lasted 10 months in making but there were no clear opportunities from both sides to open the scoring in the first 20minutes.
But, in the 28th minute, Karim Ndugwa nearly put Wakiso Giants in front but his short was blocked by Proline defender Ibrahim Sendi.
It was Proline all over the place after 30 minutes as they enjoyed the lion’s share of the ball.
Joseph Mandela’s curling effort was denied by tremendous reflex from the Wakiso Giants custodian, Yasin Mugabe.
Proline continued piling pressure onto the Purple Sharks and eventually their efforts paid off when Bright Anukani broke the deadlock in the 35th minute taking a narrow 1-0 lead into half time.
Proline had set their strolls out from the dressing room, defending deep and in numbers every time Wakiso Giants attacked which gave advantage to Ibrahim Kirya’s charges to enjoy possession in the early stages of the second half.
Wakiso Giants’ best chance of the game fell to substitute Feni Ali whose header bounced off the crossbar denying them an equalizer.
It’s a remarkable achievement from a remarkable team in an unforgettable league title race but it’s not a closing chapter as Proline hunt for a season double when they face UPL side Bright Stars in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Final.
Proline, Wakiso Giants and Kyetume FC are the newly promoted teams into the 2019/2020 StarTimes Uganda Premier league.
