The promotion battle to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League has deepened as the FUFA Big League is remaining with only two match days to its closure with teams fighting for the Promised Land.
In the Rwenzori group, Proline’s scoreless stalemate with Kiboga Young made the competition for the top spot stiffer. The Shafic Bisaso coached side is now on 38 points just one point above second-placed Kansai Plascon who are on 37 points and four points above third-placed Kiboga Young who are on 34 points.
Proline host second placed Kansai Plascon, victory for the former would guarantee them direct qualification to the top flight next season. A win for Plascon would have the Jinja based side gain control of the log suspending qualification to the last day of the league.
Kansai Plascon however, are in the form of their lives, they outsmarted Kireka United with a 6-1 victory on Wednesday to brighten their qualification chances, either directly or through the playoffs.
Proline, Kansai Plascon, Kiboga Young and Dove FC all stand a chance of getting automatic promotion to the Uganda Premier League next season.
Elgon group, established just last year, Wakiso Giants needs just one win from their remaining two games in to achieve their ultimate dream, which is playing premiership football next season.
The Purple Sharks on 37 points, five ahead of second placed Kyetume FC will confirm their promotion to Uganda’s top flight if they bag maximum points when they host Entebbe FC at Bugembe Stadium on May 2nd in their next game.
Kyetume FC can only acquire automatic promotion if they win their two remaining games and pray that Wakiso Giants lose both of their remaining games which looks impossible.
The top two teams from the Elgon and Rwenzori groups will acquire automatic promotion to the top flight while second and third-placed teams from each of the two groups will have to go through a playoff to determine the third team to play top flight football next season.
