Before the final day of the 2021/22 StarTimes FUFA Big League, Kataka FC, Blacks Power FC, and Maroons FC occupied the final three promotion positions.
However, by the climax of matchday 20, it is Blacks Power, Maroons, and Kyetume FC that earned their places in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the 2022/23 season.
Blacks Power who edged Luwero United 2-1 in Lira, emerged champions with 39 points.
Meanwhile, Maroons who beat relegated side Nyamityobora FC 5-0 in Mbarara finished second with 38 points.
The biggest drama unfolded in the Kataka versus Kyetume game where the former needed only a point to earn a promotion while the latter wanted all points.
In Mbale, Kataka first denied the Sanyuka TV crew access to the stadium as they did not want their game broadcasted live, calling for the intervention of FUFA.
The game later went ahead live on television and it is the visitors who won the contest 3-2, taking their tally to 37, enough for promotion.
Champions Blacks Power was promoted for the very first time, Maroons are back having been relegated in the 2019/20 season.
On the other hand, Kyetume has earned an immediate return to the SUPL having fallen out in the 2020/21 campaign.
Meanwhile, Proline FC has joined Nyamityobora and MYDA FC in the Regional League after Ndejje thrashed Kitara FC 5-0 at the Arena of Visions, Ndejje.
