The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has announced a bonus of USD 3500 (approx. UGX 13 million) towards the Uganda U17 girls team ahead of their crucial 2021 FIFA U17 Women World Cup play-off round qualifier against Cameroon.

The beneficiaries of this financial support will be players from the previous U17 Squad plus six new faces named by head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi.

The new faces include Gift Nasasira, Winnie Kwatira, Devine Mirembe, Aucho Kagongo, Ritah Mushimire and Kamuyati Naigaga.

The financial support is expected to help players have effective personal training while waiting for the government to lift restrictions imposed on sports activities due to the health concerns caused by the coronavirus pandemic outbreak before heading into the camp prior Cameroon double header.

‘FUFA will release funds to 35 players in the U17 Girls’ national team and each player will receive $100 to aid them in personal training as they prepare for the final stage of the FIFA U17 World cup qualifiers with Cameroon,” FUFA’s Head of Communications Ahmed Hussein said.

“We believe this financial facilitation will help the players to continue with personal training as we work around plans to get the team to camp in preparation for the matches against Cameroon.”

“The coaches have been in constant engagement with the players, sharing training manuals as we wait for the government to lift the lockdown on sports activities.”

“FUFA is ready to support the team so that we realize our target of qualifying to the 2021 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India,” Hussein added.

To reach this stage, Uganda eliminated Ethiopia and Tanzania in the preliminary and first round respectively and now will face Cameroon in the final qualifying round of the 2021 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.

The first leg will take place in Kampala, Uganda between October 31 to November 2, 2020 and the return leg will be played two weeks later in Cameroon.
