FIFA WCQ, 2022: Akumu, Johanna return to Kenya’s squad ahead of visit to Uganda

Despite mathematically being out of the 2022 World Cup qualification, Harambee Stars’ head coach Engin Firat has named a blend of star players and youngsters to take on Uganda Cranes on Thursday.

According to the Football Kenya Federation website, Firat has named rookie Nairobi City Stars Midfielder Timothy “Babu” Ouma in the final squad for the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende bout.

Also named in the squad are Armenia-based Alwyn Tera and Georgia-based Amos Nondi, as well as the returning duo of Anthony Akumu and Eric Johanna.

The team jetted out to Entebbe today morning and is expected to hold its final training session later in the evening ahead of tomorrow’s derby.

Senior forward and star marksman Micheal Olunga is part of the travelling squad and is expected to bolster their attack, and cause any possible havoc to the Cranes backline.

Meanwhile, Firat will largely have to do with a second-string defense following the absence of Brian Mandela, Joseph Okumu, and Joash Onyango. Kenya Police duo Clifton Miheso and Musa Mohammed have been added as alternatives
