FIFA WCQ: Nigeria defender to miss Ghana game

By Allan Damba

Ahead of their FIFA World Cup playoff with Ghana on March 25, Nigeria will miss the services of reliable defender Tyronne Ebuehi due to an injury picked at the weekend.

Ebuehi who was only returning from a three-game suspension came off the bench at halftime in Venezia’s 1-1 draw with Genoa, but only lasted for 30 minutes after picking what looked like a bad injury on his left leg.

According to his Italian club, the results of the tests conducted on the 26 year old revealed that the Super Eagles defender has a lesion in the semitendinosus muscle of the left leg.

And, according to a section of the Italian media, the versatile fullback could be out of action for several weeks, which will most likely be after the international break.

That development will see Ebuehi miss Nigeria’s crucial two-legged tie with the Black Stars on March 25 and 29.

The on-loan Benfica defender was a member of the Super Eagles squad at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite his absence being a blow for head coach Augustine Eguavoen, he can still count on the qualities of the likes of Ola Aina, Shehu Abdullahi and Olisa Ndah as alternatives in the same position.
