Uganda U-20 Women side registered a comfortable 3-1 victory against Kenya in the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Friday.
Juliet Nalukenge, Margaret Kunihira and Hadija Nandago scored for Ayub Khalifa’s side while Peris Aside scored for Kenya through a first half penalty.
Uganda who kicked off on a fly had their maiden glorious chance come as early as the 11th minute but Kenya’s Robi Maximilla cleared Kunihira’s cross off the line.
In the 15th minute, unmarked forward Kunihira tapped home Sumaya Komuntale’s corner kick from close range to place Uganda in the lead.
Kenya tried to respond immediately through Fasila Adhiambo but defender Samalie Nakacwa made a superb clearance. Four minutes later, Kenya levelled matters through captain Peris Aside from the penalty spot.
In the 29th minute, Nalukenge was released by Kunihira with goalkeeper Sophie Akinyi to beat but the former tapped it out.
In the 38th minute Nandago regained Uganda’s lead as she tapped the ball into the back of the net after a scramble in the box.
In the last minute of the game, Nalukenge placed herself on the scoresheet with a powerful free-kick to the top corner.
The result means that Uganda has advanced 10-3 on aggregate and will face South Africa at the next hurdle.
