Vipers SC journey to qualifying for the group stages of the CAF Champions League is still live.
They played to a barren draw with TP Mazembe in the first leg of the first round at Kitende with the return leg in seven days time in Congo.
Robert Ssebunya share his thoughts from the first leg at Kitende
1- Most physical game involving a Ugandan team in forever. TP Mazembe players were properly tackled and wrestled down and Vipers put up a fight. Unfortunately with this type of game the team is likely to get lots of yellow cards or offenses during away games.
2- The weight on Yunus Sentamu’s shoulders is a tad bit heavy. You can see the team misses Cesar Manzoki, but it’s likely Abubakar Lawal will likely be a good support cast.
3- Najib Yiga is playing with fatigue. I wonder what could be going on at his end. Good tactical decision for the gaffer to drop him early in the second half.
4- Vipers showed too much respect to Mazembe. Playing Siraje Ssentamu, and Olivier Osombo really offensively gave Mazembe acres of space and diminished propensity to create opportunities when these two defensive midfielders had the ball at their feet. They did their part in defense though.
5- Vipers need more league games to make good use of a highly top rated midfield. Today’s game seemed to have called for more creative players, but with good defensive cover and full back, I can tell why Bright Anukani and Frank Zaga Tumwesigye didn’t make the cut.
