FJL: KCCA lose the third final at the expense of BUL

By Clive Kyazze

For the third time in four years, KCCA FC Junior Team reached the final of the FUFA Junior League and failed to win it.

They fell to BUL FC Junior Team 3-0 in an exciting encounter played at the FUFA technical Centre, Njeru on Saturday evening.

Following a convincing and massive regular season in the Treble Group, KCCA hoped to bury off the bad omen of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 seasons that saw them fall to Vipers and Soana (now Tooro) respectively.

The first sign of KCCA’s failure even before kick-off was witnessed when they arrived at the pitch seven minutes to kick off, disorganized and already in the panic mood on and off the pitch.

BUL showed supremacy right from the start taking a deserved lead through Regan Kalyowa in the 21st minute and it stayed that way till halftime.

In the second half, KCCA looked very casual and more disorganised especially in defence that was so flat giving BUL freedom to take charge of the proceedings.

It’s this advantage that Kalyowa used to get his brace three minutes into the second stanza before Deo Ssentongo put the final nail in the KCCA coffin after 62 minutes.

To some extent, the KCCA defeat can be attributed to the absence of head coach Magera Jackson and dependable defender Hassan Jurua, the former was attending a burial of a relative.

To reach the finals, KCCA topped the Treble Group with 67 points while BUL topped the Hat Trick group with 56 points.

BUL JT were also the biggest achievers when it came to individual accolades with Simon Oketch scooping the MVP gong and Isaac Bewayo named the best goalkeeper after conceding only 14 goals in the entire season a feat no custodian achieved.

In the other accolades, KCCA FC forward Sadat Anaku emerged leading scorer with 31 goals to take home the golden boot while West Nile outfit Paidha Black Angles JT took home the fair play award.
