Only five games into the DSTV Premiership and Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango finds himself with an eye-catching performance already at Mamelodi Sundown.
Onyango has managed four clean sheets in four games he has played so far this season having missed the 4-3 win over Amazulu FC on matchday four.
He started the season on a high note as his side beat rivals Kaizer Chiefs 3-0 on the opening day of the season, there was no way through him as Mamelodi drew 0-0 with newbies Tshakhuma Tsha Mandzivhandila FC on matchday two.
Onyango was equal to all the Cape Town City shots with Sundowns winning 2-0 in their third game and was once again unbeatable as they beat Stellenbosch FC 3-0 on Saturday on matchday five.
And it’s such a vibrant tally of shutouts from the Cranes captain that has contributed to the Brazilians’ brilliant start to the 2020/21 season.
Masandawana have now won four of their opening five league games drawing only once. They have gathered 13 points from a possible 15 and lead the way, topping the 16-team PSL log as they chase their 11th league title.
Although Mamelodi finished with the highest number of clean sheets (15) last season, it should be noted that Onyango managed only eight of those.
This came about as he missed a series of games injured but he’s now up and running and his impact is already being felt once again as it has been for the largest part of his career with the Tshwane based side.
Four clean sheets put Onyango in a strong postion in the chase for the Golden Glove which was won by SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.
Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundown are away to bottom of the log side Maritzburg United on Saturday, December 5 on Match day six. Maritzburg have won none of their opening five league games.
