From fitness coach, Desabre also hires video analyst for Cranes

By Clive Kyazze

Instead of having excuses every now and then because what you asked for wasn’t given to you, some people prefer to get out of their way and do certain things themselves because they want results.

Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre finds himself in a similar situation, at first he hired fitness and conditioning coach Jerome D’Antonio on part-time basis to help out during national team training sessions but also matches.

D’Antonio has been part of the Cranes setup since last year and always takes charge of the team’s warmup and cooldowns.

The latest to join Desabre and D’Antonio is video/performance analyst Romain Folz, who is also a qualified football coach.

Folz joined the Cranes for the camp in Ismailia and he is expected to be with Cranes on their 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania on Sunday in Dar Es Salaam partly on the expense of Desabre.

“He is not hired by FUFA, he is part of the team but it’s Desabre who is paying him,” a source close to federation told www.football-256.com.

“I don’t think we can afford more than one foreign team, they have jobs but they are free during the international break so they can come and help out,” the source added.

It’s alleged that Desabre caters for the two coaches allowances while on duty but not entitled to winning bonuses like the rest of the official technical staff of the team. It’s also alleged that FUFA meets their transportation and accommodation.

What is the role of a Performance Analyst in Sport?

According to www.sportperformanceanalysis.com, a performance analysis is a process of assessing performance in a sport to develop an understanding of actions that can inform decision-making, optimize performance and support coaches and players in their journey towards optimal results.

In many team sports, this would consist of tactical assessment, movement analysis, video and statistical databasing and modelling and coach and player data presentations.

Performance Analysts are like any other member in the backroom staff of a sporting team. On game day, analysts require to capture all the actions happening on the pitch to later tag and create video playlists of each player for the following day.

They would then have one on one sessions with players led by the management team to present and discuss clips showing mistakes and any positives from the match.

Team sessions are also held to show the team video analysis of the game as a group, discussing offensive and defensive formations, tactical analysis and any relevant actions that need consideration by coaches.

Players and coaches may also ask for one-off clips and analysis as they find appropriate to review specific areas relevant to them to focus their development and learning.
