What started as a colourful Sunday for the passionate Lango Province lovers in Lira painfully turned into tears and misery after Bukedi edged them 0-1 at the John Akii-bua Stadium to reach the finals of the 2019 FUFA Drum.
Vuvuzelas, Drums, whistles are some of the cheering tools the fans carried along with them not knowing that their happiness would be cut short.
Going into the game, both sides named strong sides, Lango fielded KCCA FC teenage forward Samuel Senyonjo who was out marked throughout by lanky Bukedi defender Benon Tahomera.
Three minutes into the game, Bukedi took a surprise lead through Ibrahim Nsimbe a goal that turned out to be the match winner.
With the home fans cheering up their boys, they came close to levelling matters on different occasions through star boys Bronson Nsubuga and Emmanuel Obua but Bukedi custodian Emmanuel Emukule was equal to the task to tame all dangers.
Lango head coach Daniel Ogwal Engwedo made attacking substitutes by introducing Peti Wanock, Fahad Bardiro and Aliro Moses who all threatened to level matters but the very hardworking Bukedi defence wasn’t willing to surrender their lead until full time.
After the final whistle the fully packed Akii-bua Stadium was paralyzed as Bukedi custodian Emmanuel Emukule was named man of the match.
The result means Bukedi will now play Acholi in the finals on Tuesday December 10th, the latter edged Bugisu 1-0 on Saturday at the Pece Stadium.
With Lango out and Akii-bua Stadium to host the finals, it remains to be seen how the turn up will be especially from the people of Lira, but definitely the Acholi fans will travel in numbers to come support their team.
