The semi-finals of the 2020/21 Futsal Super League season presented decisive fixtures across. Four sides battled for two slots in the finals.
Mengo Futsal Club, Park Futsal Club, Synergy and Big Talent Soccer Academy had their eyes on the finals whilst Aidenal, Kisenyi, Yeak Kabowa and Kampala Junior Team battled for places and bragging rights.
A final in a maiden season for Big Talent
Big Talent Soccer Academy came into the Futsal circles only with their Head coach Muhammad Ssembatya as experienced and knowledgeable enough about the game being a former Futsal Super League winner with Yeak Kabowa.
With just a lot not expected from them, they were just the good surprise package of the season.
Into the semis, Big Talent found themselves two goals behind unbeaten Synergy (another novice), after quick goals from Travis Mutyaba and Buule MacDonald inside under ten minutes.
Big Talent suffered another blow as Kaye Ronald received his match orders after a reckless foul against Synergy’s Mutyaba.
With all hopes low, they rallied behind their captain Faisal Wabyoona and Akram Katende to level matters before the break restoring interest in the game.
With both sides playing more tactical in the second half, Synergy got their noses in front again through Yasin Sabir, the lethal forward bust to left, beat his marker and squeezed a tight angled drive for a third.
Big Talent got numerous chances to level but squandered chances through Farouk Tumwesigye before Wabyoona got his second of the day.
Synergy accumulated a sixth foul that was gracefully busted into the net by a fresh Herbert Asiimwe to send Big Talent into ecstasy.
Park parking in the final
A win against Kisenyi on Matchday four kick-started a redemption for Park Futsal club who had not won a game until then. By far the most pressured side of the league, they have stealthily recollected themselves into the finals.
All they needed was a first-half lone strike from their captain Iddi Babu. The skipper found himself in a path of a long ball which he brought down well before volleying into the net for a goal.
Park jealously defended their advantage against Mengo who gave everything but struggled to break down a tirelessly hard-working structure set by Park.
KJT manage a win eventually
Kampala Junior Team were the only side yet to win a game in the Futsal Super League season but their improved performances were pointing to that.
There was no better day to do that than on Friday. With Kisenyi missing out on four key players and almost having no viable option on the bench, lead goal scorer Billy Nkata scored five goals to extend his tally to 15 goals inspiring KJT to a memorable first victory.
Shafiq Avemah scored a hattrick and Hussein Abdallah Saddam got the other for Kisenyi to end it at 5-4.
Aidenal in for a good finish
Aidenal Sosa can finish fifth just outside the semi-finals if they win against KJT on the final day of the Futsal Super League season.
Kaweesi’s side comfortably swept Yeak Kabowa 6-2 to continue with their improved run of results making it four wins in the last five outings.
Kisiro Kenneth, Kavuma Marvin and Kiiza Angello bagged a brace each to stick it to a sorry Yeak Kabowa.
