It was a weekend full of surprises in the FUFA Women Elite League as match day twelve were big guns being brought down by relegation-threatened teams.
Action started on Saturday in the Elizabeth Group were the visitors Olila High School shocked Isra Soccer Academy 2-0 to temporarily go joint top on the table with 24 points, same as table leaders UCU Lady Cardinals.
Olila had to play again on Sunday visiting underdogs Makerere University, the hosts went on to surprise many with a comfortable 2-0 through Amina Nababi and an own goal by defender Immaculate Ikomera. That defeat sterilized Olila chances of sealing a playoff slot.
Kampala Queens gained top of the table status with a narrow 2-1 win over UCU Lady Cardinals at old Kampala.
Damali Matama and Lilian Mutuuzo gave the hosts the lead in the first half before Hasifah Nassuna pulled one back in the second half of the game.
The win gave Kampala Queens four out of the possible six points collected from UCU, the first game at Mukono ended one all, and the former is unbeaten against the same side in the last two seasons.
Kampala Queens’ victory, the defeats to UCU and Olila just make the Elizabeth Group very complicated, all the three team have collected 24 points in twelve games.
Only Olila have played thirteen games which leave Uganda Martyrs fourth with twenty-two points in twelve games.
There was more drama in the Victoria Group as seventh placed Rines who are struggling for survival defeated Ajax Queens 1-0 and Asubo Gafford Ladies who were sixth before Sunday lost at home 2-0 to She Corporate.
Rines scored through midfielder Kauthara Naluyima a win that moved them from relegation to go sixth on the table with 12 points in twelve games but just one point away from relegation.
She Corporate scored through Millicent Mwanzi and Sarah Namulindwa as they maintained their third place with 19 points from 12 games this season.
A loss sends Gafford back to the relegation zone with 11 points from 12 games with just two games to end regular season.
Winnie Babirye was the hero as Kawempe Muslim lost their unbeaten run after they were defeated by Lady Doves 1-0 at their home ground in Kawempe, on 26 points now. The win guaranteed the Masindi side playoff status in their maiden season.
Muteesa 1 Royal University completed a double after a narrow 1-0 win over Dynamic, Muteesa won the first round fixture 3-1 at Muduuma.
Skipper Margaret Birabwa scored the lone goal for the home team to go fourth on the table with 16 in twelve games.
The first two teams from each group progress to the semi-finals while the last two from each group are relegated back to regional leagues
