UCU Lady Cardinals had to grind a result out of Uganda Martyrs and registered a 1-0 win in the FUFA Women Elite League game played on Sunday at Lubiri SS mengo.
Jauhara Nabagala was the hero in a game dominated by UCU but Martyrs shot stopper Daphine Nyayenga saved the home team from conceding more than the lone goal.
It was sweet revenge for UCU who lost the reverse fixture 2-1 at home in Mukono. UCU’s gaffer Peter Ssebulime was happy with the result although he admitted they needed to score more.
“Yes good that we have won the game but we needed to score more like four but their goalkeeper did a good job to keep them in the game,” Ssebulime told www.football-256.com.
“We are out of women Cup because of injuries but players are back and we going to make sure we win every game in the league to qualify for playoffs,” he added.
Martyrs head coach Titus Zziwa narrated the loss as a very bad result for his team that desperately want to win a championship this year.
“Losing at home is really bad and a big blow for the team but that is football. We are not winning at home and that may cost us at the end of the season, but we still have five games to play so you never know things may change,” Zziwa noted.
