Kawempe Muslim’s Shakirah Nyinagahirwa scored an 80th-minute equalizer as her side drew 1-1 with UCU Lady Cardinals in the FUFA Women Super League game played in Mukono on Sunday.
Sharon Naddunga had given the hosts the lead in the 68th minute. The draw meant that UCU’s perfect run end at three games.
Before the stalemate with Kawempe, UCU had registered wins against Rines SS, Asubo Gafford, and She Corporate.
The visitors started the game on the better side and should have had a penalty when Rebecca Nakato was fouled in the box by Sandrah Abonyo but the centre referee waved away the penalty claims.
Moments later, Kawempe nearly took the lead but Nakato’s low effort was blocked by UCU’s defender Abonyo after a great pass by Jolly Kobusigye.
UCU’s first clinical chance came in the 40th minute when Ashiat Naluggwa headed out Sandra Kisakye’s sweet delivery.
Kawempe would have gone into the halftime break ahead but Hadijjah Nandago nodded inches wide to leave it goalless at the interval.
There were no clear goal-scoring opportunities until the 68th minute when Nadunga’s stinging shot off a rebound went past Kawempe custodian Juliet Adeke into the back of the net.
Nyinagahirwa levelled matters with a powerful low effort after UCU captain Maureen Kinavodori Kiverenge lost possession in the middle of the park.
The result takes UCU Lady Cardinals to 10 points from four games in the second position while Kawempe have five points and sit sixth on a 10-team log.
In their next fixtures, UCU will host Kampala Queens while Kawempe Muslim will take on Rines SS WFC on Sunday, October 23.
