UCU Lady Cardinal earned a vital 1-0 win over Olila High School to secure progress from group B to the semi-finals of the FUFA Women Super League at Rays of Grace grounds, Njeru on Saturday.
Defender Shadia Nankya’s effort in the first half was enough to guide UCU Lady Cardinals who qualified top of group B.
The game was open for the opening 30 minutes as both teams shared possession but the Lady Cardinals took a grip of the game as the half time break approached.
Three minutes from halftime, Nankya put her side in the lead with a spectacular freekick from 40-yards to place the cardinals in the driving seat.
She again had the ball in the back of the net for the second time in the game but the goal would not stand as the assistant referee raised her flag for offside.
In the other group B game played, She Corporate missed out on a spot in the semi-final despite thumping Isra Soccer Academy 5-0 in their final group game.
Ronah Nantege put She Corporate in the lead after just five minutes. Noeline Namiro doubled their lead after 25 minutes from Wilmer’s well-weighted delivery.
In the 50th minute, Susam Atim put She Corporate 3-0 up. Namiiro completed her double at the hour mark with Phiona Nabbumba completing the routing from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.
Saturday’s results mean that UCU Lady Cardinals stay at the top of the group with nine points from four games and will be joined by Lady Doves who finish second on eight points.
She Corporate came within a point of a semi-final spot but fall short eventually.
Olila High School finish fourth with four points as Isra Soccer Academy finish bottom after losing all their games in the group.
