KCCA FC midfielder Gift Ali had a brilliant run of form in the 2019/2020 season, but has failed to match it up this campaign due to injury struggles.

He has been in the sickbay more often than he has been on the pitch nursing a foot injury, but the midfielder can look to a consistent run after recovering from his latest setback.

“I am so grateful to be back, thank God and the team doctors, hopefully I will be able to help the team after picking up full fitness,” Ali said after his side’s goalless draw against Mbarara City on Tuesday.

The former Police FC player was introduced in the final minutes of the game against SC Villa on Sunday and once again came on as a second half substitute at Kakyeka Stadium.

“It was a hard game given the circumstances under which we played, heavy pitch whereby we are used to playing on a well leveled surface and therefore I believe a point was a fair take for us.”

“Yes, we did not win the game but I saw character in the boys which is a positive thing to carry us into the next game, we are away to Onduparaka and trust me we shall win,” he added.

Despite watching from a distance as the battle for the league crown continues between Vipers SC and URA FC, Ali believes KCCA FC have a chance to win a trophy this season.

Morley Byekwaso’s charges are seated fourth level on 34 points with Police FC but ahead on goal difference that is nine points adrift of joint-leaders Vipers and URA who are on 43 points.

“I believe we can still finish the season with a title because that was the ultimate target coming into this campaign,” Ali noted.

With 11 games to play in the SUPL, a nine-point gap may seem a catchable one but it will need KCCA to pick up good results consistently and hope those above them slip up somewhere along the way.

They also have a chance in the Stanbic Uganda Cup where they take on Maroons FC at the Round of 16, but there are also a number of other top teams still in contention.
