Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia have given their head coach Steven Polack an ultimatum to return to the club and resume his duties or face the sack.

Gor Mahia say they will be forced to hire a new head coach should the Englishman fail to return to the club’s headquarters by the end of the week.

Polack was allowed a 10-day leave from the club to return to his home in Finland to attend to ‘personal business’ at the start of September but is yet to return to Kenya.

“We are expecting Polack to be back at the end of the week,” club treasurer Dolfina Odhiambo told media.

“He was supposed to come earlier but we understand he delayed due to the 14-day mandatory quarantine when he arrived home.”

“If he doesn’t come back by the end of the week, then we will have to bring in a new coach,” she added.

The K’Ogalo are already preparing for the worst possible situation should the coach fail to return to the club, with Odhiambo confirming that they are already assessing a couple of potential replacements.

“There are a handful of applications at our disposal and from which we can get a replacement,” Odhiambo said.

Football256 earlier indicated that Polack’s decision to take the break was fuelled by the desire to leave the club, with sources indicating that the coach had already made up his mind on his future.

By the time he took the leave, Polack’s relationship with his bosses had deteriorated so much and was said to be irreconcilable.

The coach was said to have made sure the club settled all his outstanding bonus and salary arrears before he left.

The stunt to ask for leave follows a similar pattern taken by two of his predecessors Dylan Kerr and Hassan Oktay who left the club under similar circumstances.

Gor Mahia home to Ugandan defender Shafic Batambuze and former Vipers forward Tito Okello resumed pre-season training two weeks ago despite restrictions on football in Kenya.

Assistant coach Patrick Odhiambo has been handling the first team training in Polack’s absence as Gor Mahia prepare for the 2020/21 CAF Champions League qualifiers which get underway in November.

Meanwhile, Raymond Oruo has been appointed as Gor Mahia’s new Sports Management Consultant, Marketing Consultant and Acting Chief Executive Officer.

A statement released by the club said Oruo brings a lot of sports management expertise to the club, and that the club wish him the best in the challenging and exciting position.

Oruo replaces former CEO Lordvick Omondi Aduda who resigned to vie for Presidency of the Kenya Football Federation.
