Uganda Vs Eritrea- Pece Stadium, Gulu (4pm)
Uganda U-20 football team captain, Gavin Kizito Mugweri is upbeat about the Hippos title credentials ahead of their CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup opener against minnows Eritrea at the Pecce stadium, Gulu.
In an exclusive interview with www.football256.com, Kizito who served as captain of the U-17 side during the U-17 AFCON in Tanzania, said that he was grateful for the responsibility as the captain and ready to lead the team to glory.
“Leadership comes from God. This means that if you don’t perform your responsibility you’re letting down your God and the people who entrusted you with leadership,” Gavin said.
“I’ve been a captain for the U-17 team which means I’m experienced enough to lead such a team of experienced lads.” He added.

Kizito further noted that the team is set to represent Uganda, and fight for glory during the tournament because of the exposure and experience within the squad plus the technical and tactical knowledge of their coach Morley Byekwaso.
“Some of us have been part of the U-17, and have represented the country before. This implies that we have enough experience within the squad to handle whatever we may be up against,”
“We also have one of the best coaches in the country, we only need to implement what he instructs us to be victorious.” The captain noted further.
The Hippos emerged the overall victors at this tournament in 2010, when they defeated Eritrea U-20 5-3 on penalties, after a 1-1 draw after normal time.
They also hold the best record at the tournament, winning the trophy three times previously, as well as finishing runners up on four occasions.
