The Uganda U-20 national football team the Hippos made it to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations for the second consecutive time.
Jackson Mayanja’s charges achieved the above feat by defeating Sudan 2-0 in the semifinals of the CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers at Kober Stadium in Sudan on Tuesday.
Rogers Torach and captain Isma Mugulusi’s second-half goals in the 54th and 70th minute respectively were enough for the Hippos to reach the final of the CECAFA region.
Uganda will face off with South Sudan who eliminated Ethiopia 4-2 in the penalty shootouts of the other semifinal following a 2-2 draw in normal time.
The final will be played on Friday, November 11th and the Hippos will be hoping to defend their crown.
The two finalists will represent the CECAFA region in the AFCON tournament that will be staged in Egypt in 2023.
During their maiden time of asking, the Hippos reached the final of the 2020 U-20 AFCON before they were defeated 2-0 by Ghana in Mauritania.
