How CECAFA Kagame prepared Proline for the continent

By Football256 Team

Proline FC began life on the continent in high gear with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Malawian outfit Masters Security FC in the 2019/2020 Total CAF Confederations Cup preliminary round tie at the Star Times Stadium, Lugogo.

Promising forward Ivan Bogere grabbed a hat trick in the first leg tie putting them in a position where they can make a strong case in the return leg.

Several factors; from being at home to playing in front of a collection of joint fans from different local clubs all in the spirit solidarity and national patriotism might have played some part in this historic sweet victory.

But the abrupt participation of the club at the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup in July headlines them all.

For starters, Proline were not meant to take part in the regional tournament but following the refusal of two Tanzanian giant clubs in Simba SC and Yanga Africans to be part of the tournament, Proline were invited.

The 2018/19 FUFA Big League winners and Stanbic Uganda Cup holders landed the abrupt invitation from the tournament organizers joining league champions KCCA FC, an invitation they positively honoured despite the insufficient time for preparations.

The experience gathered while in Rwanda much as they didn’t progress past the group stage was indeed key and a massive preparatory arena ahead of their maiden continental challenge as they learned a lot on and off the pitch.

Proline played against competitive clubs like APR FC of Rwanda and Green Eagles of Zambia who were using the same tournament to fine-tune themselves ahead of their CAF Champions League ties.

Green Eagles defeated South African giants Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round over the weekend in Zambia.

With now one leg into the next qualification stage where they will face the winner between Rwanda outfit AS Kigali and Tanzania’s KMC FC, the morale, confidence, and belief in the Proline FC camp keeps getting better each passing day.
