Former KCCA FC and Buildcon defender Paul Musamali who now turns out for struggling Uganda Premier League (UPL) side, MYDA FC has revealed to Football256 that he’s not paid any salary at the club.

Musamali joined UPL new entrants MYDA from Zambian outfit Buildcon in a silent deadline date deal, easily believed by many to be money oriented. He has however disclosed that he didn’t receive stacks of money to join a ‘lower’ side from a bigger club.

“I am not on salary here,” Musamali told Football256.

“I am playing football for MYDA purely for the love of it. And I know the club would not be in position to meet my demands even if I made them known to them anyway,” Musamali added noting that the most important thing for him at the moment is to keep himself in good shape for the next big challenge ahead.

On how he survives if he is not earning from his major job, the player said;

“I want to be a little realistic here. I play my football, and the club gives me what they can. I take home whatever they have to offer because I am aware of the situation at hand.”

Musamali however ‘feels good’ playing for his hometown club and in a league that provided him with a foreign opportunity.

Musamali remains tight-lipped about his actual next move, though it is eminent that he will not stay at his local town club for another season.

He adds; “MYDA is a very great club, finding its way up to the top (UPL) from the very bottom of Uganda’s football structure is historical. But I didnot come home to sit in my comfort zone. I push for greater challenges everyday.”

The versatile combative player impressed at a very demanding KCCA side under the extremely picky Mike Mutebi. He could ideally easily ‘walk into’ any of the starting eleven of the UPL’s top clubs, but that is not as easy as it seems.

“Playing at the top level of any league is a priority, and it is true that my agent approached some of the Ugandan big teams before my switch from Zambia but it was a very crucial time towards the transfer deadline date.”

“Most cubs had fully registered the players they intended to fit in their new full-season plan,” he continued.

Musamali further refuted reports that he just ‘disappeared’ away from Buildcon.

“I left Buildcon because my contract expired. They wanted me to renew my contract but I wasn’t impressed with the new terms because they were not favourable to me. Prior to that, I had gone up to seven months without payment,” he explained.

Musamali says he is at the moment concentrating more on helping his team to survive relegation, and keeping himself in good physical shape.

MYDA have picked up just nine points from 19 games and are 11 points away from safety with 11 games to go.
