Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) host St. Lawrence University in a Group B encounter of the Pepsi University Football League on Thursday in Mbale with both teams in search of their first win of the season.
This is the first meeting in the league between the two sides and IUIU head coach Harunah Kebba believes his side has what it takes to bag maximum points from the game.
“Obviously St. Lawrence are a good team having finished third last season so I can say we are the underdogs in this game,” Kebba told www.football256.com.
“However I believe that at this stage of the competition we shall be able to do well against them especially since we are playing at home,” he added.
St Lawrence who finished third last season were held to a one all stalemate by former champions Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) in their previous outing while IUIU held Gulu to a goalless draw away from home.
St. Lawrence coach Nnono Ssozi is also keen on maintaining the impetus from his side’s last season’s performance.
“Last season we had a very good run and it was disappointing not to make it for the finals, this season we want to go all the way to the finals but first we have to qualify from the group,” Nnono said
“UFL has become very competitive this time round, previously when the groups were drawn, it would be obvious who would finish in the top two positions.”
“Now we have at least three teams competing for the top two positions and in some groups all four teams are competing for the top two positions,” he added.
On Friday YMCA Comprehensive Institute host Bishop Stuart University at their Buwambo campus, both teams are also in search of their first wins of the season having lost their opening games.
