URA captain Shafik Kagimu is arguably the best player in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) at the moment.

He has offered his best to the team, inspiring a string of remarkable results that have seen the team shoot to the top.

From the past to the present, football is almost solely judged by numbers, an aspect which the midfielder notes can be misleading at times.

“I love scoring, but I am most interested in how the goal comes, the whole creation process is such a thrill,” the midfielder narrates.

“Whether or not I score is secondary, but the most important thing is that the team gets a positive result. The three points matter more than who appears on the score sheet,” he added.

Kagimu, however, reiterates that he is not so surprised by how everyone reacts to the goals, he interestingly notes that most fans come to the stadiums to watch the goals in disguise of watching football.

“I know fans love goals, but when I go out to play, I am generally thinking of how the goal is going to come,” Kagimu adds, noting that he prides in dictating play.

Kagimu can not resist assisting, he is always involved in the attacking aspects of his team, either laying that final pass for a teammate to score, or at least the next teammate to assist the goal.

Steven Mukwala, the second top scorer in the UPL with 14 goals and Cromwell Rwothomio with 9 goals, can attest to Kagimu’s industry and effect in helping the club get the ball in the back of the net.

Kagimu’s stats as a midfielder look undeniably attractive already, but his contribution is more than scoring or assisting goals, and that is the beauty of the little magician in URA’s captain.

URA with 57 points is sitting second, just a point below league leaders Express FC, thanks to Kagimu and company.

Also to mention, URA is above the league’s defending champions who are third with 56 points on the 16 team log, thanks to the Tax Collectors’ relentless spirited fights spearheaded by the humble guy with a small body but big brains.

URA has so far had 26 UPL games, and Kagimu has not featured in only two of those., he has been so efficient. The midfielder only sat out with an injury when URA hosted Bright Stars and SC Villa at the Arena of Visions.

Not just showing up for the occasion, but Kagimu has always been equally productively present in the 24 matches he has played for URA, scoring nine goals and assisting six times.

Worthy to note, the UPL top scorer – a prolific striker has 16 goals, and Kagimu playing from the midfield position is just a goal away from hitting double figures. He most probably will be having more than nine goals by the end of the season.

Besides the impressive statistics for the midfielder, not only has Kagimu been hugely instrumental in URA’s attacking set-up, but also pivotal to Sam Simbwa’s plans. As a sergeant, Kagimu has always been at Simbwa’s service whenever called upon.

Deployed in unnatural right and left-wing positions by Ssimbwa, Kagimu’s has regularly responded with commendable performances from either flank, despite the simple fact that he prefers to operate more centrally.

Like a commander, Kagimu has represented well from the forefront, leading “the boys” with example.

If leading is based on performance, Kagimu does not need the armband for recognition. Rarely does he open his mouth to speak, but his actions do a lot of the talking for him.

One can understandably count discipline out of the excellent equation, it is however also logical to mention that URA’s good performance has so much to do with team order, dominantly stimulated by their admirable number 8.

In the 2020/21 UPL season, Kagimu for URA has been highly influential, efficient and an excellent performer.
