Fred Kajoba brought the curtains down on his short 16-month reign at Vipers SC, but the club was drawn on parting ways with the coach at the end of the season, Football256 understands.

Kajoba announced on Monday evening that he will be leaving his role at the club with immediate effect following a meeting with Vipers technical director Charles Masembe about his commitment at the club.

However, one senior source at the club has told this website that Kajoba’s time with the Venoms was not going to go beyond the end of the season and that the situation at the club had perhaps made it clear to him that he will not be in charge next season.

According to the source, the club’s board were dissatisfied with Kajoba as head coach arguing that they needed a coach who can bring style and guarantee success at Kitende.

Despite Vipers still having a huge chance of winning a double as they are within two points of the league leaders Express, and are in the quarterfinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup, the belief was there that Kajoba’s time was up.

“He was going to leave at the end of the season anyway, that is the position of the club,” a source told Football256.

“The club is already looking at other options and while he had not yet been made aware, a decision against him was being made.”

“They were waiting for the season to end, regardless of the outcome and the success to reveal their decision,” the source added.

The former Coffee FC goalkeepers has seen a fluctuating lack of support in the recent weeks but held on as he wanted to deliver a proper title to the club as he also sees out the final months of his contract.

But the meeting with Masembe made it clear that he was fighting a losing battle, and his boss’ question about whether he was fully committed to the club was completely telling.

Kajoba sealed his fate on Monday evening, not holding back on his decision to leave, blatantly informing Vipers’ technical directors that he would gladly leave.

The Uganda Cranes goalkeeping coach said that he made the decision to leave after Masembe gave him an ultimatum on whether he stays with his job at the club or he concetrates on the Cranes role to which he had no second thought.

“I went for our afternoon training session at Vipers and Masembe called me in his office and asked me to choose between Vipers and Uganda,” Kajoba told Football256.

“Without thinking twice, I told him I choose Uganda, when Vipers hired me, I was working with the Cranes and I will always choose the Cranes any day over any club job,” he added.

The former Bright Stars FC coach arrived at the St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende at around 1 PM on Monday afternoon for the team’s afternoon training session, barely two hours after he had taken part in Uganda Cranes’ morning training session at Lugogo.

Shortly after, he headed for the team’s training session which he conducted to the end. After training, Kajoba was called into the office by Masembe who demanded he took a decision, to which he informed him he would step down.

He then informed his backroom staff of the news, and then proceeded to tell the players of his departure before leaving Kitende.

Masembe went ahead to inform the club’s board of Kajoba’s verbal resignation, with the club confirming his resignation on Monday evening through a statement.

Before his resignation, Vipers were third on the Premier League log on 56 points, two points behind log leaders Express and one point behind second placed URA.

Vipers face a trip to face rivals SC Villa at the Bombo Barracks grounds on Wednesday in the Uganda Cup quarter-finals.

The fixture is still balanced following a 1-1 draw at Kitende last Tuesday, which was Kajoba’s final game in charge.
