Kakembo shortlisted for inaugural FIFA club management Diploma

Former URA FC chief executive officer Ivan Kakembo has been admitted to enrol for the inaugural FIFA Diploma in Club Management course.

Kakembo the director of Uganda Youth Soccer Academy (UYSA) was selected from a list of top football executives from around the world who applied for the course.

Kakembo is a seasoned football administrator having been CEO at SC Villa between 2014-2018 leading the club to the 2015 Uganda Cup, and also at URA holding the office between 2018 and 2019.

He was also Chief Executive at Nyamityobora FC and worked as a player recruitment analyst at the University of Pretoria.

Kakembo also underwent and completed FUFA Administration and Management Course (FAMACO), he is a consultant in commercial and contract law as well as players and coach representative.

Kakembo will become the first Ugandan to study the course which will run for the first time between March 2021 and January 2022.

Speaking to Football256 after receiving his admission letter, Kakembo revealed that the course will not only aid him as an individual.

But he is happy to share the knowledge with other club administrators and that he hopes more Ugandans enrol for the course.

“It is a special thing for me,” a jubilant Kakembo said, adding; “I relish the opportunity to enrich my knowledge by taking on such a course. I cannot wait to get started.”

“Of course, this is something significant not to me as an individual alone, but it can have a ripple effect in Ugandan football with the knowledge acquired.”

“I hope I can share the knowledge I acquire with other administrators at all levels.”

“I also call upon other top administrators to go for this course because we need as many people with this level of knowledge so that we can grow our game even further,” he added.

The diploma program is open to only individuals who are football executives, but despite being without a club, Kakembo was recommended to the program by his former side URA FC.

In his recommendation, URA FC chairman James Kizza described Kakembo as “combining a strong professional background with a wide understanding of football management.”

The diploma program will combine both online classes and face-to-face lessons in London and at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich.
