Uganda Hippos and Police FC forward Derrick Kakooza has been named as the player of the month for February in the Real Star Awards.
Kakooza beat URA FC’s Steven Mukwala and KCCA FC’s Sadat Anaku to the award.
The trio had an impressive performance in March but the former was beyond special with the Uganda U20 side in the Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania.
As Uganda made history by reaching the final during their maiden appearance at the tournament, the 18-year old was phenomenal finishing top scorer with five goals.
Three of which came in the month of March when he scored a hat-trick during his side’s 4-1 win over Tunisia in the semi finals.
His U20 national team compatriot goalkeeper Jack Komakech, won the February award.
Two other sports disciplines were also awareded at a ceremony that took place at Route256 restaurant in Lugogo on Tuesday, April 6.
In Rugby, Hippos’ Maxwell Ebonga beat Betway Kobs duo in Justine Kimono and Pius Ogena to the award.
Irene Nakalembe walked home with the accolade in the Golf race that also had Joseph Chinya-ai and Martha Babirye.
She Cranes defender Joan Nampungu was awarded in the Netball category where she beat Irene Eyalu and Shaffie Nalwanja.
