Derrick Kakooza took his StarTimes Uganda Premier League tally to five goals as his brace and Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye’s strike helped Police FC to a 3-0 victory over UPDF FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Wednesday.

Police coming off the back of a 10-1 aggregate victory over Calvary in the Uganda Cup had the first sniff at goal inside the first 10 minutes but Eric Ssenjobe failed to capitalise on goalkeeper Eric Kibowa’s poor clearance.

Kakooza then had a header off Duncan Sseninde’s cross cleared off the line by Kibowa moments before Zaga made their early period of dominance stick with a low drive from outside the box in the 21st minute.

UPDF could have drawn level almost immediately through Brian Kayanja but his shot fizzled just off the target.

The Cops missed two great opportunities to add to their advantage, Zaga side-footed Ssenjobe’s cut back over the crossbar while Sseninde missed a keeper to beat following a quick breakthrough Muwadda Mawejje.

In the 37th minute, Kakooza produced a brilliant solo goal, beating UPDF defender Bernard Muwanga for pace before chipping over Kibowa.

The 19-year-old striker completed his brace in the 61st minute with a simple header from Mawejje’s cross following another poor clearance from Kibowa.

The visitors squandered two late chances James Begisa choosing to pass instead of shooting when one on one with Derrick Ochan while Henry Katongole cleared Sam Kintu’s glancing header off the line.

The Cops managed to hold on for their fifth clean sheet of the season as they climbed into fourth on the log on 31 points, eight points behind joint leaders Vipers.

UPDF on the other hand, stay seventh on the log on 25 points ahead of their home tie against Kyetume FC on Saturday.

Police travel to the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru to face Busoga United.
