Express FC striker Frank Kalanda says that the Red Eagles earned massive three points following their 1-0 victory over bottom side Kitara FC at the Kavumba recreation Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
Wasswa Bbosa’s side have won their last four games on the bounce in the league and remain one of only two sides who are still unbeaten this season.
Kalanda killed off the game in the 73rd minute with from the penalty spot after Kitara’s Patrick Mugume handled the ball inside the area.
While the striker who has scored only three goals this season from 11 appearances has admitted that he has not yet reached his expected standards, he hopes that the goal can help him re-find his touch.
“It has been a while since my last goal,” Kalanda said after the game.
“This win means a lot to me individually. It has motivated me to keep going, I am focused and now I want to keep this scoring form going into the next match.”
Express went into the game off the back of a three-game winning run where they had scored 10 goals, but they were kept at bay for much of the game by their struggling hosts who are yet to win a game this season.
The Red Eagles were again at fault for failing to put away their chances as Kitara posed very little threat going forward.
George Ssenkaaba, Charles Musiige all wasted scoring opportunities before the former was brought off with a concussion following a head injury midway through the second half.
Kalanda managed to stay cool from 12-yards out to save his side from the disappointment as the victory lifted them to the top of the league momentarily as Vipers play on Wednesday.
“Football is a game where everyone has a chance of winning, losing or drawing but we thank the Almighty God that we have taken the three points today,” he said.
“This game has reminded us of how tough it is in the league. The result has kept us focused on our chase for the trophy this season and believe me we are ready to challenge for the title challenge especially now that we have one hand on the trophy,” Kalanda continued.
Express host Busoga United next on Friday, March 5, with a chance to take their winning run to five games.
