Express FC gave their supporters plenty to cheer as they boosted their StarTimes Uganda Premier League title hopes with a 2-0 victory over Police FC on Saturday afternoon.

Kambale maintained his brilliant scoring streak with his third goal in two games to hand the Red Eagles their third successive league victory to strengthen their chase of the leaders.

Kambale has been key to Express’ form recently and he was once again the shining light on a dark and rainy day in Wankulukuku.

The striker was gifted a goal after just five minutes, as goalkeeper Derrick Ochan’s clearance was held up in a pool of water, with Kambale left with the easy job of slotting into an empty net.

Police had two successive opportunities to draw level but forward Muwadda Mawejje failed to connect well with Eric Ssenjobe’s cross while Ben Ocen shot wide from inside the area.

Wasswa Bbosa’s men doubled their lead at the start of the second half, Lwesibawa’s cross taking a wicked deflection off Ssenjobe and beating Ochan at his near post.

The Cops were awarded a penalty moments later but Ben Ocen had his effort saved by Mathias Muwanga who did well to go down low to his left and deny the forward what would have been his 12th goal of the season.

The Red Eagles move level with second placed Vipers SC on 46 points – Vipers visit KCCA FC on Sunday – and four points behind leaders URA FC who reached 50 points with victory over Onduparaka on Friday.

Police on the other hand have now suffered their second successive league defeat in all competitions as their title hopes completely wane with the gap against the leaders opening up to 13 points.

Express face a trip to relegation strugglers Kyetume FC next while Police FC are at home against KCCA FC on Wednesday.
