Uganda Cranes midfielder Khalid Aucho quickly adapted to life in Tanzania with Yanga Africans SC winning hearts of many fans including the club president Hersi Ally Said.
Aucho joined Yanga at the start of the 2021/22 season from Egyptian side Misr El Mekkasa, however, it’s not the reception he anticipated
“Before coming here I was warned that the team you are joining is not easy.” Aucho told Football256.
“That brought me a bit of fear because I was told about the behavior of the fans should you perform poorly.”
“But I later spoke to myself and everyone else around me that I wanted a new challenge and that’s how I came here.”
“I was determined and aware of what I was going to face and I am grateful that onto reaching here everyone loved me,” he added.
Aucho won a treble in his maiden season with the record champions of the Tanzania Premier League.
Aucho’s Yanga emerged champions of the Azam Cup, Community Shield, and the league crown which they clinched while unbeaten.
“We had elements of togetherness and hunger and these proved vital in our success last season.”
“Yanga had finished four years minus winning a trophy so every player wanted so much to win and we managed to win three trophies.”
“We still have the same hunger this season and even the new players that were signed have the same mentality.”
“We should be able to win the title again it may not be by making another unbeaten run but all efforts are on retaining our crown,” Aucho noted.
The 28-time Tanzania Premier League champions are tied on 13 points with rivals Simba SC but it’s the latter on top of the table with a better goal difference.
The two teams will meet on Sunday, October 23 when Yanga hosts Simba at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
