‘From Allah We came and to him we return, I will miss you my elder sister Sarah.’ Umaru Kasumba posted on his official Facebook account, minutes after his club ZESCO United’s hard fought 3-2 victory over Napsa stars in the Zambian Super League over the weekend.

The former SC Villa striker had just endured 90 minutes of labored hard work, filled with the deepest and hardest of emotions as he tried to help his new side continue their perfect start to the league 2019/20 league season.

Kasumba scored the opening goal of the game in the 18th minute, before Bornwell Mwape equalized for Napsa in the 30th minute.

Clement Mwape and Quadri Kola scored in the 64th and 82nd minutes to almost but surely seal victory for ZESCO, before Bornwell added a second late on in added time for his second, but it was not enough as ZESCO took all three points.

The trouble and trying moment for Kasumba came 20 minutes to the start of the game, as he learnt of the passing on of his elder sister only identified as Sarah.

Kasumba had to endure the pain of his loss silently, as he kept the news away from his teammates and coaches in a bid not to disorganize the team’s preparations for the game.

“I received the sad news of my sister’s death 20 minutes to kick off our match against Napsa Stars and at that time I felt lost, demoralized and shocked,” Kasumba told

“I prayed to Allah give me strength and give me the courage to play the game since I was already named in the starting XI and indeed, I managed to go onto the pitch and play,”

“Eventually, I scored my first league goal at the club which I dedicated to my sister, but in all this I didn’t reveal anything to my teammates and coaches till full time because I didn’t want them to lose the focus.” He continued.

Kasumba’s sister passed on last evening (Sunday) in Uganda and she is expected to be buried today with Kasumba likely not to be available for burial as travel constraints cannot allow him to arrive in time.
