Following SC Villa’s emphatic 3-0 win against Ndejje University FC in their return leg of the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the Arena of Visions on Sunday, focus for the Jogoo now turns to the Kampala derby against rivals Express FC.

Villa who had all the work to do in the return leg following a shocking 1-0 defeat against their second division opponents, ensured they over turned the fixture to progress 3-1 on aggregate thanks to goals from Ronald Ssekiganda, Emmanuel Wasswa and debutant Geofrey Wasswa.

The buzz and jubilant mood that the victory created around the club will surely help the attitude, but Kaziba will want to check for complacency heading into the crunch derby on Wednesday at the Bombo Barracks Grounds.

“We came into the game knowing we needed to change the result,” Kaziba told the club website.

“I think the players were composed and followed the instructions that’s the reason why we claimed all points with the required margin of goals and thanks to the boys we achieved our goal.”

“I have told the boys not to get complacent but shift focus to the game against Express FC,” he added.

While Kaziba’s charges wait to learn of their next opponents at the Round of 16, focus must quickly shift to their high flying rivals.

In the first round of the season, Express gained a narrow 1-0 win against the Jogoo thanks to George Ssenkaba’s second-half strike as Wasswa Bbosa’s men took the bragging rights in the derby.

Express are enjoying a season that Villa – who were involved in the title fight last season before it was cut short by the coronavirus pandemic outbreak – will very much envy.

The Red Eagles are third on the log, a point behind joint leaders Vipers and URA FC who are on 36 points.

Meanwhile, Villa’s season which promised much at the start has been halted by dithering inconsistencies as they have lost significant ground in the chase for their 17th league crown.

The Jogoo however have recently worked to improve on their performances and nine points from their last three games have helped them climb up the table to sixth.

They are a not so distant seven points behind Express and victory on Wednesday will be a strong statement regards reminding a few that they could have a say in the title race as the season weathers on.
