The last time KCCA FC won a major silverware was in 2019, then a 20-year old Allan Okello was dictating matters in midfield for the 13 time Premier League winners.
The 2018/2019 League title was followed by the 2019 CECAFA Kagame Cup in Rwanda, before he crowned the year as the winner of the inaugural 256 Footballer of the Year.
His departure to Paradou in Algeria in the January 2022 transfer window saw KCCA FC’s prowess on the pitch head south.
In March 2021, his football father Mike Mutebi was relieved of his duties which led to an even more sombre mood at Lugogo.
Okello returned to Lugogo on Friday morning and was part of the afternoon training session, and, he believes the good times are back at the MTN Omondi Stadium.
“It was amazing to train with the guys again, I felt at home because everyone made me feel at home, it’s now time to settle and get work done,” Okello said in an interview with the club on Sunday.
“I believe in our team, if everyone is on their feet, we can do whatever the club needs, they will give 100 percent for the club.”
“We are going to work hard, we shall do our best, and at the end of the season the victorious smiles will return at Lugogo.”
It all looks like the left-footed midfield gem still has his touch, in a Saturday friendly game against MUBS, KCCA won 7-0 and Okello was on the scoresheet.
“I am ready to work hard, go on and give the best for the club, it is my duty to give 100 percent and see that the club performs again,” he raved.
Okello knows a thing or two about working as a team, his time at Lugogo didn’t only deliver a League and Uganda Cup titles. They also played in back to back group stages of CAF’s Interclub Competitions.
“We were working hard together as a team, giving our best 100 percent, that is why the club had the trophies, qualified for the CAF Champions League group stages.”
The 2019 FUFA Footballer of the year also finds familiar faces at Lugogo including, Peter Magambo, Filbert Obenchan and Julius Poloto, players he joined the senior team with from the junior side.
Shaban Muhammed is another he has been teammates with, both at Lugogo and the national team and, he has had lots of confidence in the former, who is also in his second spell at the club.
“Everyone knows Shaban will score the goals, hopefully this season is going to be good for him again, I believe I am going to give him lots of assists again.”
The forthcoming Uganda Premier League season starts this Friday, but Okello and KCCA will not be in action until Saturday when they host Wakiso Giants at Lugogo.
