KCCA FC are just one point away from winning a 13 league title after their 3-1 win over Express on Saturday in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
The win cemented KCCA FC’s position on the 16 team log to 59 points nine better than second placed Vipers SC who lost 2-1 at home to URA on Good Friday.
KCCA FC manager Mike Mutebi started with a rare back four, midfielder Gift Ali at right while Peter Magambo and Filbert Obenchan sat on the bench.
Eric Ssenjobe partnered with skipper Timothy Awany in central defense, Mustafa Kizza at left back, Hassan Musana was suspended.
Express found themselves in the lead after 13 minutes, Dissan Galiwango tripped himself, in the process confusing referee Ali Sabila who pointed to the spot, John Revita made it 1-0.
KCCA FC insisted on their traditional possessive game, they always got close but also stayed too far.
After 37 minutes, Mutebi pulled the first plug, replacing Lawrence Bukenya with Saddam Ibrahim Juma.
Their rhythm intensified and they kept on pushing for an equaliser, in added time of the first half, Isaac Mutanga fouled Allan Kyabambade.
Kizza stepped up and curled his effort on the right side of Tony Kyamera, it hit the post before finding the back of the net. 1-1.
At half time, Michael Birungi came on for Eric Kambale as Mubarak Nsubuga led the line for Express.
Express weren’t effective offensively and it affected them defensively, Pius Mbidde fouled Kyambadde at the edge of the area after 62 minutes.
This time around Muzamir Mutyaba stepped up and calmly slotted it home leaving Kyamera helpless.
Express had ran out of steam as KCCA FC continued with their search for a third, it eventually came with a 14 minutes left on the clock.
Just outside the area, Kyambadde turned and shot in the top left corner, again Kyamera left with no chance.
KCCA FC favourite now at Express Brian Umony was given a run in with 10 minutes left on the clock, a situation he never thought would come to pass.
Both sets of fans were left satisfied with a result that was expected because of the current state and form of both teams.
KCCA will need just draw in their Tuesday fixture against Ndejje Lions in Luwero while Vipers visit Police at Lugogo on the same day.
