Uganda Premier League heavyweights KCCA FC have ultimately resolved to part ways with youthful defender and academy graduate Joseph Kafumbe.
The 18-year old left-back departs Lugogo after two years of senior team football and while his exit might yet to be confirmed by the club, close sources to both parties indicate that it’s imminent.
Kafumbe, a silver medalist with the Hippos team that lost the U-20 AFCON final 2-0 to Ghana in Mauritania under the stewardship of Morley Byekwaso rose through the KCCA academy.
He earned his promotion to the senior team in July 2019 when then club manager, Mike Hillary Mutebi, promoted him alongside five other youngsters whose impeccable work was there to see.
Sadat Anaku healined the six-man list that also included centre backs Ramathan Musa, Samuel Kato and Hassan Jurua but also winger Joseph Kiiza Bukenya. Kafumbe’s name completed the list.
Unlike his counterparts, Anaku and Musa who seem to have managed to fit-in well, Kafumbe had a tougher time trying to impress Byekwaso and a bounce from the gaffer was on the horizon.
KCCA are quite confident of their options at left-back with newly promoted Ibrahim Juma available to compete with Herbert Achai-the defensive cover whenever called upon.
KCCA went trophyless last term, and the club is clearly up and about to see that they rise from their ruins in the forthcoming season-after worryingly losing seven times, registering six draws and 14 wins last time out.
They collected a mere 48 points from 27 games to finish fourth on the Uganda Premier League table, 10 points off the eventual champions Express FC, nine behind URA FC and eight shy of Vipers SC.
That has been followed by a lot of new developments at Lugogo with so many players coming in, and others departing, or rather shown the way out.
The eleven other new signings include: Brian Majwega, Brian Kayanja, Geoffrey Wasswa, Emmanuel Wasswa, Yasser Mugerwa, Innocent Wafula, Derrick Ochan, Arafat Usama, Mato Rodgers, Elvis Mwanje and Ibrahim Juma.
Noteworthy, in the current KCCA squad, there are upto eleven academy graduates including latest graduates: Elvis Mwanje and Ibrahim Juma.
Ali Mwirusi, Sadat Anaku, Musa Ramathan, Dominic Ayella, Peter Magambo, Herbert Achai, Kizza Bukenya, Julius Poloto, and Jurua Hassan complete the long list.
The Lugogo departures include: Moses Aliro, Samuel Kato Nemeyimana and Juma Balinya, who all agreed to mutually terminate their contracts with the club.
Moses Kalanzi, Keziron Kizito and Filbert Obenchan had their respective contracts run down without renewal while Sunday Opio is potentially the next on the list of departures.
KCCA only cashed-in on Steven Sserwadda and goalkeeper Hassan Matovu’s transfers to New York Red Bulls and Soltilo Bright Stars FC respectively.
