KCCA ended a run of three games without victory with a 2-0 win over relegation candidates Kyetume FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo on Sunday.
Morley Byekwaso’s side went into the game fifth on the table following Bright Stars’ win over BUL Bidco FC on Friday, but managed to wrestle back fourth place with the three points.
It looked like it could be another frustrating afternoon for the Kasasiro Boys as they struggled to create any threat against their struggling visitors through the opening 15 minutes.
But with forwards Julius Poloto and Sam Ssenyonjo finding plenty of space and seeing a lot of the ball inside the Kyetume defensive third, the signs were there that perhaps a break through was close.
KCCA took the lead after 21 minutes, Poloto latching onto a deep cross to break Kyetume’s resolve for his second league goal.
The hosts stepped up the tempo of the game and had a couple of chances to double their lead before the break. Gift Ali put a little bit more power behind his through ball to Poloto following a counter attack.
Herbert Achai had an effort from range fly over the cross bar, while Ssenyonjo’s dink over the goalkeeper was inches over the target.
In the 66th minute, Ssenyonjo scored his first league goal since December 2020 with a sumptuous shot from 25 yards that sailed past Kyetume goalkeeper Derrick Were.
Byekwaso’s side who had suffered back-to-back home defeats against Bright Stars and Vipers SC returned to winning ways as they reclaimed fourth place on 41 points, a point above Bright Stars.
Kyetume’s survival hopes suffer another blow as they remain 14th on 20 points, six-points away from safety with six games to play.
KCCA travel to the Military Barracks Grounds to face seventh placed UPDF FC while Kyetume are at home against table leaders URA FC on Wednesday, May 19.
