KCCA FC head coach Morley Byekwaso has called upon his players to put up a serious fight if they are to afford a positive result against Vipers SC.
The two powerhouses will face off in their first meeting of the 2022/23 Uganda Premier League season at Lugogo on Saturday.
“Everyone knows the magnitude and weight of this fixture,” Byekwaso said during his pre-match press conference on Friday at Lugogo.
“We are playing against a team that is fresh from attaining qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages.”
“To manage anything positive against such an opponent we need to be more serious and more effective,” he added.
The Kasasiro Boys come into this game having registered a mixture of results given that they edged Wakiso Giants FC 3-2 at home in their opening game, while they lost 3-1 away to Arua Hill SC.
“A look at how we have been performing and where we are standing on the table indicates that we have to improve significantly.”
“We need to put up a strong performance and fight for a win and depending on how we have been training this week, there has been a lot of focus and I am optimistic that we shall win Saturday’s game,” Byekwaso noted.
Vipers won the 2021/22 UPL title comfortably with 74 points, a whopping 18 points ahead of second-placed KCCA who were on 56 points.
During the same season, the Venoms edged the Kasasiro Boys 2-1 at Lugogo while the contest played at Kitende ended in an entertaining two-all stalemate.
After two games, KCCA is positioned ninth on the 15-team UPL log with three points while Vipers who have so far played once have a single point in 12th place.
“The most important thing is how we are going to calculate our games because we have so far played only two won and lost one.”
“We need to handle each game with the hunger to win because all the games are important for us to go where we belong on the table.”
“We shouldn’t be under any kind of pressure we just need to focus, and play well and results will come our way,” Byekwaso concluded.
Byekwaso confirmed that Denis Iguma is available for selection, Muhammad Shaban and Brian Aheebwa will require a late fitness test and Brian Kayanja won’t be involved due to injury.
