Ugandan goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya has completed a move to Tanzania Premier League sides Azam FC to join fellow Ugandan Nicholas Wadada.
Kigonya joins Azam from Zambia’s Forest Rangers on a free transfer after he signed a two-year contract with the Wana Ramba Ramba.
According to Kigonya’s personal manager Simon Wasswa, the deal is already signed and the keeper is waiting to be unveiled.
“Everything is done and goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya has completed the move to Tanzania Premier League giants Azam FC for a period of two years with an option of extension.”
“It has taken a long time of discussions, patience and definitely hard work.” Wasswa was quoted by Kawowo Sports.
The 24-year old custodian had a superb season in Zambia where he led Forest Rangers to second place in the national super league, earning the goalkeeper of the season accolade.
Kigonya previously had spells with Bright Stars in the Uganda Premier League, Kakamega HomeBoyz and Sofapaka SC in Kenya.
Kigonya will have to outcompete David Mapigano and Ally Mwadini for a starting spot at the Ice Cream Makers.
