Ugandan goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya has confirmed his departure from Tanzanian giants, Azam FC after two years in Dar es Salaam.
The former Soltilo Bright Stars FC custodian joined Azam in January 2021 after his stint with Forest Rangers.
“Following the expiry of the two wonderful years at Azam FC, my stage at this wonderful club has ended,” confirmed Kigonya off his Facebook page.
“Indeed, I’ve been very happy here. Azam has been home and it’s been a pleasure to feature for this wonderful and historical club,” he added.
“As I say goodbye, I take this moment to thank the staff top to bottom, the players I have shared incredible memories with, and the fans who took me in when at both low and high points.”
Kigonya helped guide Azam to a third place in the 2021/22 Tanzania Premier League, where they collected 49 points, behind runners-up Simba SC (61) and eventual winners Young Africans FC (74).
Besides, Bright Stars and Azam, the Cranes shot-stopper has also played at Kenyan sides, Kakamega Home Boyz and Sofapaka FC.
