The 2017/2018 StarTimes Uganda Premier League goalkeeper of the season Samson Kirya and his agent are in negotiations with SC Villa to renew his contract that expired on June 30th, 2020.
The 25-year-old who last played a competitive game in May 2018 before suffering a career-threatening injury during training following a collision with a teammate revealed that he will prioritise extending his stay at Villa Park.
Kirya’s priority lies with the Jogoo at the moment, and the club has already tabled a two-year contract for him.
But the goalkeeper stressed that he has his terms and the club will have to meet them before he can sign on the dotted line.
“Villa has tabled a new two-year contract extension already.” Kirya told Football256.
“I want to stay at the club and definitely me and my agent have looked through it and we have demands of our own, and we shall have to discuss with the club and find a way forward.”
“Honestly I have received interest from other clubs, but Villa is top priority for me now and I will consider their offer because the club has been of great help for me.”
“But in case we fail to agree on personal terms, then I will be left with no choice but to consider the offers I have elsewhere,” he added.
The former Water FC custodian underwent a surgery to his left knee in March 2019, returning to the senior side during the second round of the last season.
However, with Saidi Keni making the number one spot his, Kirya had to settle for a backup role and was limited to a handful of appearances before the season was prematurely ended by FUFA.
Sources close to the player told this website that Wakiso Giants, URA, Vipers and Express are the clubs ready to meet all the player’s demands in order to drag him away from Villa Park.
Kirya showed his gratitude to the Jogoo family for all they did for him during the hardest and lowest moments of his career.
“I am grateful to the Villa management for showing trust in me and giving me a chance to revive my career when they took me for the operation and fully paid my bills.”
The Information Technology graduate from Makerere University is remembered by many for the great performance that earned him the golden glove during the 2012 Pepsi University Football League as he helped Makerere win the title.
