After acquiring the service of winger Martin Kizza from South African side Royal Eagles, Express FC head coach Wasswa Bbosa handed him his debut against URA FC in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Saturday.
Express defeated the Tax Collectors 3-1 at the Betway Muteesa II Stadium Wankulukuku and Kizza put up an impressive performance on the day.
“I am grateful for the team’s performance which helped us win our first home league game of the second round,” Kizza told the club’s website.
“Even at ten men we kept compact, individually I am happy to have had two assists on my debut, I can only get better and hopefully we carry such a performance into our next game,” he added.
Eric Kambale’s brace and Godfrey Lwesibawa were on target for the hosts while SUPL’s leading goal scorer Steven Mukwala netted the consolation goal for the visitors from the penalty spot.
Kizza did not have his name on the score sheet but was all over the ground and most notably assisted Kambale’s first goal with a beautiful free kick into the area which the former nodded in for Express’ second goal of the game.
The former KCCA FC player was at it again when he was brought down inside the 18 yard box by URA defender Brian Majwega with referee Ali Sabila pointing to the spot.
Kambale stepped up and converted the penalty completing his halftime brace taking his tally to five goals in the league this season.
Express will now turn their focus to the Stanbic Uganda Cup where they visit Kyetume FC at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru on Wednesday, April 7.
