Uganda Hippos goalkeeper Jack Komakech has been named the Real Star Player of the Month for February.
At the Awarding ceremony held at Route256 Restaurant in Lugogo on Tuesday Morning, Komakech beat fellow Uganda Hippos teammate Steven Sserwadda and Express FC forward George Ssenkaaba to the accolade.
The young goalkeeper is one of the most important players for the Uganda Hippos at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Mauritania.
Komakech has two clean sheets on his name already against Mozambique and Burkina Faso.
He was the Hippos hero when he saved Yacouba Djiga’s spot kick for the Uganda U20 side to qualify for the semi-finals at the expense of the Young Stallions.
Given that the Hippos have gone a step further from when Komakech was nominated reaching the final of the U20 AFCON tournament, the young goalkeeper is in pole position of returning home with the trophy and the best goalkeeper of tournament award.
Komakech takes over from former URA midfielder Saidi Kyeyune who won the award for the month of January. Kyeyune is now with Sudanese side El-Merrkick.
World champions Joshua Cheptegei, and Husina Kobugabe were the winners in the Athletics and Badminton categories which were also awarded on the day.
Cheptegei beat Honsea Kiplangat and Peruth Chemutai while Kobugabe saw off Fadilah Shamika and Brian Kasirye.
