Sofapaka striker Umaru Kasumba hopes his current form with the Kenyan Premier League side can earn him a slot in the African Cup of Nations squad.
The speedy forward has been in sensational form for Batoto Ba Mungu this season scoring 15 goals. He’s joint top scorer in the league alongside Allan Wanga of Kakamega Homeboyz and Ulinzi’s Enosh Ochieng.
In an interview with the club website, Kasumba stated that he wants to win the golden boot with the John Baraza coached side and hopefully earn a call-up to the national team.
“I am ready and I think if given a chance, I will prove what I can do. I have proved it on the pitch this season and I have seven more games to prove more. Every player wants to represent his country and it is my personal dream to play for the Cranes,” he said.

The player further reaffirmed his desire to score 20 goals this season. The former Police and SC Villa man believes he can score five goals in the remaining seven league matches.
“I think I am really happy with how I have progressed this season. Bearing in mind I didn’t start the first five games due to injury I think I have done well.
“My target this season from the start was 20 goals and I believe I will get that target. Secondly, I also want to win the Golden Boot and I will work hard to win it,” he added.
Kasumba has been one of the most consistent strikers in KPL since he arrived in June 2017. He scored 13 goals during the second leg of 2017 season, bagged ten last season and has so far found the back of the net 15 times this season.
