Umaru Kasumba was on target once again as Sofapaka overcame Sony Sugar 1-0 in a Kenyan Premier League match played at Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The in-form forward scored the all-important goal for the Batoto Ba Mungu outfit from the penalty spot just before the break and in the process helped his side leapfrog Gor Mahia to top of the Kenyan Premier League table.

Sofapaka leads the table with 48 points after 25 rounds of league matches, they have however played four matches more than second placed Gor Mahia who have accumulated 46 points.

Kasumba’s goal took his tally for the season to 13, one behind KPL leading scorer Allan Wanga. Ulinzi’s Enosh Ochieng has also scored 13 and the trio will fight it out for this year’s golden boot.

Sony Sugar’s Ugandan trio of Andrew Waiswa, Robert Achema and Ambrose Ayoyi all featured in the game.

In the other match of day, Ugandan Gor Mahia duo of Shafik Batambuze and Erisa Ssekisambu missed out as their side was held to a one-all draw by Ulinzi Stars. Former Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech opened the scoring for Gor before Enosh Ochieng scored from the spot to help his side to a point.

In Machakos, Martin Elungat’s Zoo FC lost 2-0 to Martin Lule’s Posta Rangers. Both keepers started for their sides.
