The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have appointed experienced Ghanaian coach Samuel Kwesi Paa as the new head coach for the national U17 and U20 sides for one year.
The announcement was made on Wednesday morning by FUFA president Moses Magogo, at the same function, Paa was also unveiled to the media. Fabin is confident about the new role and can’t wait to get to work.
“Am happy to be here, it’s my first time to come to Uganda and am glad the Federation here agree to take me on,” he told the journalist present.
“I can’t wait to get started with the boys, with teamwork and discipline I think we shall make it.”
The experienced 60-year-old has managed various clubs in Ghana with his recent appointment being giants Asante Kotoko in 2018.
Before that, he had spells with Heart of Lions, Hearts of Oak and Inter Allies all in the Ghana Premier League.
Kwesi was also the U17 Ghana national team coach and led the youthful black stars to a second place finish at the 2017 Africa U17 Nations cup held in Gabon, they lost to Mali 1-0 in the final.
FUFA president Moses Magogo highlighted the need to have the right personnel at all levels of the National teams.
“We have always said the youth are the priority, every coach who has come to Uganda has gone on for bigger projects and am sure this won’t be any different,” Magogo said.
“We are happy to have Fabin, Uganda is a hospitable nation and am sure you will enjoy your time here” Magogo added.
Before the finals in Tanzania, the Cubs are expected to have a 10-day training camp in South Africa.
The top four teams from this biennial showpiece will qualify for the 2019 U17 FIFA World cup which will take place in Brazil. Kwesi will be assisted by KCCA FC assistant coach Jackson Magera and Hamza Lutalo.
