Uganda U17 national team head coach Hamza Lutalo has summoned a 52 player squad to begin preparations for the forthcoming AFCON Zonal Qualifiers.
The zonal qualifiers which will also double as the 2020 CECAFA U17 Challenge Cup will be hosted by Rwanda from December 13-28 2020.
Only two teams will gain tickets to represent the Central and Eastern zone at next year’s AFCON U17 finals to be held in Morocco.
The team consists of eight goalkeepers, 14 defenders, 15 midfielders and 15 forwards.
The provisional squad also contains 11 players who represented the country at the inaugural U15 CECAFA Challenge Cup where Uganda emerged victorious.
Goalkeepers Daniel Mukisa, Gubya Wilson and Chandia Walter who were part of the U15 squad have been selected once again.
Defenders Shafiki Waswanga, Vicent Mulema, and Peter Gava plus midfielders Travis Mutyaba, Patrick Muliika, Ouke Patrick and Ssekibengo Godfrey have also been included.
Shafiq Magogo, son to FUFA President Moses Magogo is one of the forwards to make the progress from the U15 team to the U17 team.
Also included on the team is Basil Tenywa Tuma who plays in the United Kingdom with Eton College and Lloyd Nsambu Kirabo who plays for French Ligue I side Metz FC’s U17 team.
The players will enter camp on Wednesday, November 4 and will stay in camp for 36 days until December 9 at the FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
As a health precaution due to COVID-19, the entire contingent of players and officials will undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing before they enter camp.
