Charles Lwanga scored the decisive goal as KCCA FC edged rivals SC Villa 1-0 in the Kampala derby at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Lwanga who joined the Kasasiro Boys from Villa at the start of the season came on as a second half substitute to haunt his former side.
KCCA care-taker coach Morley Byekwaso who suffered his first defeat at the club against URA on Wednesday, had labelled the game a vengeance mission following their first leg defeat against the Jogoo.
Lwanga’s moment of brilliance lit up a game that had for the better part disappointed to live up to its pre-match billing.
The home side had the better chances of the game overall with Julius Poloto scuffing his attempt from an in-direct free kick early on while Sam Ssenyonjo failed to find the target when one-on-one with Saidi Keni.
Moments later, Filbert Obenchan placed his header into the side netting from Herbert Achai’s free kick.
At the other end, Nicholas Kabonge’s low shot was the biggest threat that Charles Lukwago had to deal with for the entire first half.
The Kasasiro Boys returned in the same spirit for the second half and had a couple of close opportunities but a breakthrough remained elusive for them.
In the 74th minute, Lwanga produced the moment that would decide the game as his side footed shot from outside the area beat Keni at full stretch.
Villa’s Abdallah Salim drew a fine stop from Lukwago in added time as KCCA held on for three points.
The victory lifts KCCA into fourth on 33 points while SC Villa remain sixth on the log on 29 points.
KCCA will make the trip to Kakyeka Stadium to visit Mbarara City on Wednesday while Villa host URA FC in their next league encounter.
