Denis Onyango’s Mamelodi Sundowns can clinch the DSTV Premier Soccer League (PSL) title with a victory against SuperSport United on Wednesday.

Following their exit from the CAF Champions League, the Brazilians have their focus fully shifted to their bid for a historical fourth straight PSL title.

Mamelodi, after playing 26 games are topping the PSL table with 57 points, seven more than second placed AmaZulu on 50 points and have played a game more.

Victory for Masandawana will hand them an unassailable 10-point gap on top of the standings and they will be confirmed as champions with three games to spare.

If Mamelodi beat SuperSport, it will be Masandanwana’s first title in the post-Pitso Mosimane era.

There is so much more to play for than just winning three points, as Supersport maintain hopes of squeezing into the top three if they win.

The Tshwane derby is also very much anticipated outside South Africa specifically in Uganda as it pits two Ugandan players against each other if both Onyango (Mamelodi) and Moses Waiswa are selected for the game.

Onyango is also closing in on the Premiership clean sheet record which stands at 17.

The above record, held by Amazulu goalkeeper coach Moeneeb Josephs was set in the 2009/2010 season when he was still the shot-stopper at Orlando Pirates.

With four games for Sundowns left to go until the end of the season, Onyango has already managed 14 clean sheets, just three adrift of Moeneeb’s record.

Sundowns have led at the top-of-the-table throughout the campaign and despite a minor blip a few weeks ago, they have steadied the ship and come into this on the back of three straight wins.

They come up against a SuperSport United side that ended a winless run of ten matches in their last outing as they defeated TTM by a goal to nil.

Despite the visitors ending their poor run of form, Mamelodi Sundowns will be confident of securing their 14th league title and extending their already record amount.
